VTA calls for West Gate fines feedback

The Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has issued a call to transport operators travelling in Melbourne regarding infringement notices issued regarding road closures or roadworks as a result of ongoing infrastructure project.

The call comes as a result of the VTA being provided information from members that the NHVR has been issuing infringement notices over the course of the past two months as a result of the closures and works in and around the Port of Melbourne due to the West Gate Tunnel project.

The VTA is seeking information and details of any infringement notices due to sudden changes in access to roads around the Port of Melbourne and its surrounding areas, including the nature of the fine(s), the location and circumstances of the infringement, and any necessary added context.

“We understand that this ongoing infrastructure projects and the unprecedented road closures are creating significant challenges for operators, and we want to ensure that these impacts are properly addressed with the relevant authorities,” the VTA says.

“Your input will help us address these outcomes and ensure that the transport industry’s concerns are addressed.”

All responses should be addressed to James Williamson at james@vta.com.au.

Major construction on the West Gate Tunnel project commenced in early 2018 and will provide a second river crossing and alternative to the West Gate Bridge.

The project is anticipated to be completed at the end of this year following the earlier completion of tunnelling works.
