WHG expands TCA-approved hardware range with newly Type-approved telematics unit

Continuing its leadership and advancing the field of regulatory telematics, WHG has expanded its range of TCA-approved hardware with the approval of its latest device – the 720 Telematics Unit.

This advanced hardware platform delivers feature-rich functionality at one of the most competitive price points in the Australian market, purpose-built for fleets seeking compliance with the Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA) and Road Infrastructure Management (RIM) under the National Telematics Framework.

In a significant step forward for fleet management technology, Australian-owned WHG is proud to announce that the 720 telematics device has officially received Type Approval by Transport Certification Australia (TCA). This achievement enhances WHG’s growing suite of approved solutions and reinforces its position as the first dual-certified provider under the National Telematics Framework for both Telematics and Smart On-Board Mass (OBM).

“Expanding our technology lineup supports our vision of a broad, dynamic connected ecosystem – one that integrates more of the transport operation into a smarter, safer, and more connected future,” said Dylan Hartley, Director of Operations at WHG.

With over 35 years of innovation, WHG continues to lead the industry in delivering world-class technology, telematics, smart wearable and IoT solutions. The 720 –  engineered and supported in Australia – reflects WHG’s commitment to excellence and is tailored to the needs of the transport, freight and logistics, construction, and industry sectors.

The newly approved 720 device ticks every box for RIM and TMA compliance, offering a level of additional functionality and capability not yet seen in the Australian landscape. With CANbus integration, IoT-readiness, and a broad suite of fleet management features, it seamlessly connects with WHG’s existing IoT ecosystem, extending monitoring beyond vehicles to equipment and auxiliary assets.

Key features include:

Real-time location monitoring
Automated health checks and diagnostics
Engine data capture and analysis
Geofencing and towing detection
Early theft warning
IoT module integration
Support for Driver ID, TPMS, and more

This comprehensive platform empowers fleet operators to enhance safety, productivity, and compliance – while reducing operational downtime through proactive maintenance insights.

Reiterating WHG’s commitment Dylan added, “We’re committed to pushing the boundaries of hardware innovation and making the adoption of advanced technology more affordable and accessible, so we can collectively drive safety improvements across Australia’s national fleet. The harmonisation of regulatory frameworks and our collaboration with road authorities and managers is an exciting step forward – and it’s our responsibility to support operators by providing the technology they need to meet these evolving requirements.”
