A young truck fan from Germany, with a passion for Australian trucks, has built a replica of the T659 tipper owned by Melbourne operator Rocks Plus, after seeing a photo of it on Facebook.
Christian Apel, 18, spent months creating his masterpiece, before unveiling it to Hallam Truck Centre Sales Consultant Bob Fuerste during his recent trip to Europe.
Bob has German heritage, with lots of family still over there. He and Christian are second cousins.
Christian follows the Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centres Facebook page, which is where he first saw a photo of the truck.
This T659 was Christian’s inspiration. Image: Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centres“I sold the truck to Rocks Plus, then Christian saw the post on our Facebook page and contacted me to ask for more photos so he could build a truck out of Lego,” said Bob.
“He built it all just from looking at those photos.
“I asked him how long it had taken to build and he couldn’t put a time on it, but I reckon it took him somewhere in the vicinity of 6-8 months to complete, because he had to source all the pieces to get it right.”
Christian unveiled his LEGO build to Bob, when he visited Germany last November – and now Christian is planning a trip down under in 2026 – giving him plenty of time to work on another replica of the same truck.
Christian will soon begin work on a second identical replica. Image: Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centres“I’ve been speaking with the owner at Rocks Plus, Michael Kasso, and he’s stoked with it. So now Christian is building another one that he’ll glue together and send over for Michael,” added Bob.
“When Christian comes over next year, Michael is planning to take him for a ride in the actual truck. They also have hoodies featuring their trucks – including one with that particular T659 – so he wants to give one to Christian.”
